In this video, I encourage you to take a look at the representations you/the curriculum are using to help kids learn their facts. Do they help or hinder their ability to develop strategies beyond counting?
To help kiddos develop their fact fluency they need to start seeing relationships between the facts they know and the facts they don’t know. This video explains a way to have your kiddos create their own set of “strategy cards” based upon their own personal Known & Unknown Facts.
Christina Tondevold, BMM facilitator, walks through the 3 Reasons kids are still counting on their fingers along with how we can combat each one to help kiddos develop fact fluency.
