MISSION OBJECTIVE:

Help your students build their understanding of a Math Strategy.

MISSION BRIEF:

PREP TIME REQUIRED:  2 hours            EST. TIMEFRAME: over the course of two weeks to start, but continuous throughout the year

In this mission we will be focusing on helping students develop strategies for operations.

At the end of this month you will have provided your students opportunities to build a strategy for operating with numbers through number routines, story problems, and games.

Rosalba Serrano and I have put together sessions for each of the most commonly used strategies for solving Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division.  We are doing 5 live strategy sessions, but as a member of the site you have access to the recordings and to more in-depth resources to help you implement the use of these strategies with your students. So far there is a video and resources for two of the strategies: Composition and Decomposition.

Your mission for this month is to pick one of those strategies, watch the video about it, and then use some of the resources to help your students develop an understanding of the strategy so they can use it on their own.

To fully complete this mission, you will need to watch the video to learn about the strategy and then use some of the resources to help your students understand & use the strategy.

This mission will self-destruct on February 29th at 5pm Pacific, so be sure to complete your mission and submit your results before then so that you are entered for your chance to win the Monthly Math Goody Box.
