Addition and Subtraction fact practice

Hello,

I am a Learning Coach at our school and I have a parent who would like to be helping her son learn his addition and subtraction math facts. He is in grade 7 and is still counting on his fingers. What could I suggest for them to do at home? I was thinking I’d send the addition fact table that shows the one/two more/less connections. Is there a subtraction one too? Thanks for your help.

Great idea to have them focus on the types of facts with him! There is not one for subtraction because usually the reason kids struggle with subtraction is because they aren’t solid with their addition facts…and then seeing the relationship between the addition & subtraction facts. If a kid is solid with say 8 + 7 = 15, and they understand the connection between addition & subtraction, when they see 15-7 they should know it’s 8.
