Good Afternoon.
I have a question regarding Christina’s 3 instructional practices that she feels should be in every math lesson.
I know from her video(s) that she recommends:
5-10 minutes Number Routines
10-15 minutes Contextual Problems/CGI
10 minutes Practice (games)
That is max, 35 minutes. My question for Christina or anyone on here that knows is, what do you/does she recommend for the rest of the math block if it is a 50-60 minute block? Does she recommend the 1-3 CGI problems that are on computation be in addition to their daily standard/instructional piece? For example, if they are learning about addition, they could use CGI for that and increase the time for the contextual piece. But if they are learning about shapes in the world, would they do a 20 minute lesson on shapes and then still the 3 pieces mentioned above?
I am looking to create a lesson format suggestion for K-2. Here is where I am so far.
Thank you in advance for your response(s).

Jill, I never saw this question come through but was in here answering one that came in today so I’m sorry this is so late. If teachers are tied to a textbook I want them to be able to do the lessons they need to do. Do the Routine, then word problem (usually you can grab one from your textbook lesson), then the lesson from the book (hopefully with more word problems), then let them practice with a game.
If teachers don’t have a textbook they are required to use then I’d do more word problems, small group stations, or like you said a short lesson on a particular topic.
