Christina,
I am new to your site and have also become a member! I love, love, love the content.
My purpose in searching and finding you is the help my team create a better math program for our kids. We teach k-5 students in special education self contained classrooms. We have our students all day and often for several years. Our students are never going to master all their grade level standards. We have to focus on life skill standards/skills. Don’t get me wrong, they can for sure learn and be mathematicians but not to the extent other peers in the general education classes will.
We do not have any curriculum (that works to help guide us) and we want to create a progression of those math life skills.
1. We need to identify THE life skills we are working towards (k-5, but in reality k-3)
2. We need to identify or create how we will know where they are.
3. We need to know the most effective routines to put in place each day to achieve our goals
4. We need a process for knowing when to move on to the next level in our progression of the identified skill.
Do you have any thoughts for us?

Stephanie, sorry for the delay.  I was chatting with Rosalba about this because this is a much bigger thing than can be answered in a little Q & A.  We both believe you need to find someone who can come in and work with you and the staff there to delve deep into your current curriculum and take a look at the recommendations for your students and what their mathematical goals should be.  This isn’t my area of expertise, nor Rosalba’s, so we both had on our TO DO list to see if we could find someone we could recommend but haven’t yet found anyone.  If anyone in here sees this question and has a recommendation of a person who could work with Stephanie to devise a plan for her students, please post.
